Late application of the PG form after the 30-day application period will attract an extra cost of five thousand naira for form application.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must in the first instance, meet the relevant “O” Level requirements for the award of a Bachelor’s degree of Benue State University:
- A credit in English Language is required for all courses;
- A credit pass in Mathematics is required for all Sciences, Social Sciences as well as courses in Management Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Educational Management;
- A Pass in Mathematics is required for all non-Science Education Courses;
- “O” Level credit Pass in Economics is required for all Management Science courses and Economics;
- A credit pass in “O” Level Literature in English is required for programs in the Departments of English, Languages & Linguistics, Theatre Arts and Law, while a Pass in Literature in English is required for the Language Education program;
- IJMB “O” Level credit Pass in Mathematics and English Language are acceptable instead of credit pass at SSC or GCE “O” Level;
- NCE English major is acceptable instead of “O” Level Literature in English;
- NCE Use of English is acceptable instead of an “O” Level credit pass in SSC or GCE “O” Level English.
- Psychology requires at least a Pass in Biology or Health Science;
- In all cases, “A” Level passes supersede “O” Level
ii. Master’s Degree Programmes (M.Sc., M.A. and M.Ed)
In addition to (i) above, candidates must possess a relevant Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division from Benue State University or any University recognized by the Senate of Benue State University.
- For M.Sc. Physiology and Anatomy, candidates must possess a B.Sc. First Class or Second Class Upper Division or Second Class Lower Division in Physiology of the University or from any other University recognized by the Senate of Benue State University.
- Medical graduates of this University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Benue State University, who are fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria as
- For M.Sc. For Mathematics and Computer Science, candidates must possess a B.Sc. Mathematics or Computer Science respectively of the University or from any other University recognized by the Senate of Benue State University with a minimum CGPA of 3.00. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in related fields such as Mathematics Education, Statistics, Mathematics/Statistics, Statistics/Computer Science, or PGD in Mathematics or a related field at a minimum CGPA level of 3.00 may be considered for M.Sc. Mathematics while candidates with Bachelor’s degrees in related fields like Mathematics, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, B.Sc. (Ed) in Computer and Information Management, or PGD in Computer Science with a minimum CGPA of
3.00 may be considered for an M. Sc. in Computer Science. Such candidates may be required to make up for any deficiencies by attending appropriate module(s) from the University’s undergraduate program.
iii. M. Sc. Management and Master in Public Sector Accounting
- Minimum of Second Class Lower Division (CGPA of 3.00) with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Management, Accounting, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Management, or Economics from a recognized
- Candidates must have attained a satisfactory level of performance in the University’s Admission Test and
- Candidates with PGDM from recognized Universities and who have passed with a minimum of Upper Credit (CGPA of 3.50) may also be considered for admission provided the University’s matriculation requirements are In addition, candidates must possess (i) above.
iv. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programmes
In addition to (i and ii) above, candidates must have a good Master’s degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.50 or a ‘B’ grade from Benue State University or any University recognized by the Senate of Benue State University.
- For Ph.D. History, candidates with a Master of Philosophy degree may be admitted for the program, or candidates who do not hold an M.A. in History will be required to take several 800-level courses for one academic
- For Ph.D. programs in the Faculty of Education and in the Department of Business Management in the Faculty of Management Sciences, candidates shall also be required to take written and oral
- Furthermore, candidates for Ph.D. programs in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching and Department of Business Management are required to consult the Head of the Department as to the availability of supervisors in the areas they wish to specialize in before applying.
- For PhD Law, applications should be accompanied by a research
- For PhD Physiology and Anatomy, candidates must be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
v. Master of Health Management (MHM)
- Any degree in Medicine (MBBS and BDS), a degree in Pharmacy, and an Honours degree in Nursing and another Medical professional
- Advanced Diploma in Health Management of Benue State University with a minimum of Credit pass average and any other relevant postgraduate diploma/qualifications.
In addition, candidates must possess as in (i) above.
vi. Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Minimum of Second Class Lower Division with Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Management, Accounting, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Management and Economics from recognized
- Candidates must have attained a satisfactory level of performance in the University’s Admission Test and
- Candidates with PGDM from recognized Universities and who have passed with a minimum of Upper Credit (CGPA of 3.50) may also be considered for admission provided the University’s matriculation requirements are

vii. Postgraduate Diploma in Planning Studies
The Department provides a 12-month program leading to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Planning Studies. Intending applicants are expected to:
- Possess the University Entry (WASSC or NECO SSC at not more than 2 sittings) requirement of at least 5 credits, which must include English Language and Mathematics and any three subjects from the following: Geography, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, Economics, Technical Drawing, OR
- possess a General Certificate of Education (GCE “O” Level) passes in 5 subjects at credit level and at least a credit in Mathematics and any 2 subjects from the following: Geography, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, Economics, Technical Drawing, NABTEB NTC and
- A Bachelor’s degree in any of Geography, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Estate Management, Building, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or Urban and Regional Planning with at least a 3rd Class honors or an HND in Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, or Estate Management with at least credit
viii. Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science
The Department provides that a candidate must pursue their studies for not less than 3 semesters and not more than 4 semesters from the date of registration.
- Candidates must possess basic entry qualifications into the undergraduate program (5 credits which must include English Language and Mathematics).
- A minimum of Third Class Degree in Computer Science or CGPA of 2.00 for Computer Science graduates or Lower Credit for HND.
- Candidates who do not possess degrees or HND in Computer Science but who possess a minimum of Second Class Lower degree in Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, and Geography may be admitted into PGD in Computer Science or any other relevant discipline.
GENERAL REGULATIONS
All programs begin with a Course Work and end with a Project for Postgraduate Diplomas or Dissertations and a Thesis for master’s and Ph.D. degrees respectively. The duration of Degree/Diploma programs is as follows:
- Postgraduate Diploma programs shall be of one-year minimum and two years maximum duration.
- Master’s Degree programs shall normally be of one academic year minimum duration for full-time and two years for part-time candidates. The duration shall not normally exceed two years for full-time and three years for part-time
- Doctorate Degree programs shall normally be of three years minimum duration for full-time and five years for part-time candidates. The duration shall not exceed five years for full-time and seven years for part-time
NOTE: Applicants must request their previous institutions to forward their Academic Transcripts to The Secretary, Postgraduate School, Benue State University, Makurdi. (Transcript to be accompanied by Transcript Request Forms which should be printed from the University portal).
How To Apply for BSUM Postgraduate Admission Form (Full Time & Part Time)
Kindly read through carefully before proceeding to the application button below. Follow the outlined steps below for your application
Step 1 – Applicants are to obtain the form online via the Benue State University website www.bsum.edu.ng (under applications on Benue State University Portal section)
Step 2 – Click on Postgraduate complete some pre-registration information and submit.
Step 3 – Once submitted, an Application number will be generated. Print a copy of the pre-registration form. Applicants would then proceed to the designated Banks (Fidelity, First, Zenith, Sterling, Diamond) with the printed copy of the pre-registration form and pay a non-refundable application fee using the generated Application number.
Step 4 – After payment, applicants would be expected to re-visit the Benue State University Portal under Application
Step 5 – Click on Postgraduate to complete the Application Form and submit it.
Step 6 – Applicants should print in duplicate the hard copy of the completed form, attach all relevant photocopies of their credentials then submit it to the Postgraduate School.
Step 7 – Applicants are to ensure that the online reference forms are completed by the three referees. They are to note that applications without relevant documents uploaded will not be considered.
Guidelines for Filling Application Forms
Applicants should provide all information sought in the form. Applications with incomplete information shall be treated as void. The proposed course of study including the area of specialization if any should be clearly stated. Applicants should ensure that their official transcripts of academic records are forwarded to the Postgraduate School by their former universities. Applications without official transcripts of academic records shall not be processed. A candidate can apply for admission to only one Degree/Diploma program at any given time.

BSUM PG Admission Form Deadline
The Management has announced that the closing date for the BSUM postgraduate admission form is 24 September 2023.
All students who have duly registered and paid their user charges will be issued School Registration numbers on 27th September 2023. Any student without the registration number shall not be allowed to sit for the first semester examinations.
